Library Dean
Welcome to the William C. Jason Library, located on the campus of Delaware State University, Dover, DE. The library is home to a vast array of resources, both traditional and virtual. I encourage use of the library’s holdings. We operate an open environment and provide reference services for faculty, staff, students, and the community at large. Research and information literacy, as well as related instruction, informational handouts, and guidance are provided to all patrons and groups who visit the facility.

The library staff has been engaged in a strategic process for the past year, planning and finding effective ways to address issues that arise from a rapidly growing and increasing world of knowledge. We plan to provide and emphasize a more expansive role in providing quality databases, updated collections, journals, and e-resources to support the mission of the University. We are committed to acquiring high quality information and equally committed to those that need our assistance. To date, we have implemented WorldCat Local, renovated computers labs 128/129, installed a self-check kiosk, uploaded a Facebook page, scheduled fall 2011 database workshops, and are continuing our goal of bringing our library to a higher level.
Each academic program has a liaison librarian who works closely with the faculty in the program to select the best materials to support the curriculum of the program. Liaison librarians have also developed tutorials and subject guides for numerous disciplines. The purpose of these guides is to identify key resources in the disciplines and to help students get started with research. In November 2011, the William C. Jason Library will be featured in “Against the Grain” as a success story because of our initiative in offering our patrons more effective research with standardized LibGuides. Congratulations Staff. Job well done!
Technology is transforming libraries rapidly, yet this is an interesting time for libraries. I encourage each of you to explore our website, facilities and services. Beyond our print books, e-books, and journal collections, the library offers research databases, audio and streaming video collections, and image repositories. The library includes two computer labs with capacity for over fifty computers (there are three other computer labs in the building), seven computers in the lobby, a Viewing/Presentation room, Special Collection room, Archives room, group and individual study rooms, an Education Resource Library, and is a selected depository for United States publications.
An open invitation is extended to you to utilize our services and explore our collections and resources online and in the library. Please visit us often, either physically or virtually, and learn how the university library can assist you in your educational pursuit. Also feel free to ask the William C. Jason Library staff for assistance at any time including through Ask Reference or on-line chats.
In Proud Service,
Dr. Rebecca E. Batson
